Star Wars Pinball from Zen Studios now available for the Kindle Fire - DroidGamers - DroidGamers

Posted by AndrewH in Tablet Gaming News on April 29, 2013

Zen Studios’ newest release is something we’ve talked about plenty in the past. Star Wars Pinball is their newest pinball platform that was released onto Android, both as a separate app but the tables are also available inside Zen Pinball HD if you already have that installed. However, Kindle Fire owners haven’t had the chance to play Star Wars Pinball until now.

Star Wars Pinball is now available over on the Amazon AppStore for Kindle Fire tablet owners who want to dive into the world of pretty awesome 3D animated pinball tables. This release features the three original tables that the Google Play version has: The Clone Wars, Boba Fett , and Episode V . Each one is themed around the movie or event that they are named after.

Just like the Google Play release, this Kindle Fire version has all the features that the normal one comes with such as global leaderboard, hotseat multiplayer, in-game friend challenges and so on. You’ll also get all the animations you can handle in high definition 3D rendering.

For those of you who own a Kindle Fire and have been waiting for this to make its way to Amazon, you can pick up Star Wars Pinball off of Amazon’s AppStore for $ 1.99.

Survey: Amazon app developers not big fans of Kindle hardware - GigaOM

1 hour ago Apr. 25, 2013 – 9:25 AM PDT

Despite lagging far behind the iOS App Store and Google Play, the growing Amazon Appstore is beginning to be taken seriously by mobile app developers, right as it gears up for a wider international rollout, according to app analytics company AppAnnie.

Out of 1,500 mobile app developers surveyed, 22.5 percent are publishing for Amazon devices, according to AppAnnie’s inaugural Amazon app developer index published on Thursday. That’s tiny compared to its larger mobile rivals, but the big finding had to do with developers’ motivations: the Amazon Appstore is becoming an important outlet for developers, but not because they’re impressed with the company’s new hardware devices. Rather, AppAnnie found that the No. 1 thing driving developers to Amazon’s store is simple convenience: 52 percent said they already build Android apps, so it’s easy to port them over for Amazon’s store.

The other reasons they gave show Amazon still has a ways to go in convincing more developers that it’s an important and necessary outlet for their work. Among those already publishing on the platform only 24 percent said they did so because they “believe Amazon Appstore market share will grow,” and a meager 7 percent said they “believe the Kindle Fire will be a leading device.”

Some other interesting stats AppAnnie found:

  • 56 percent of Amazon Appstore publishers focus on games
  • Half say games are the leading revenue driver for them

AppAnnie sees big things for the store. There are already 75,000 apps on it and 19,000 developers signed up – which pales in comparison to 850,000 iOS app and 800,000 Google Play apps available – but the Appstore hasn’t been widely accessible outside the US However that’s changing soon: Amazon announced last week it would be opening the Appstore to 200 countries over the next few months, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, India, South Africa and South Korea.

So far, only just a rumor, "platformers" incarnation of the Amazon Kindle - Deep Apple

All the following information is on the conscience of journalists Bloomberg Businessweek, which are traditionally from reliable sources found: deep in the bowels of “Amazon” to conjure a small box, which (a) is connected to the Internet and that (b) squeezed branded online services Instant Video and Amazon Prime. All this taken together should ideally become a worthy competitor Apple TV and Roku.

However, the word original source:

– The development of consoles has been located in Cupertino division Lab126, which for several years actively experimenting with prototypes of such devices. The project is led Malachy Moynihan (Malachy Moynihan), who before moving to the Amazon was the vice president of video products at Cisco, and even worked until the early 1990′s nine years at Apple. In addition to Moynihan’s considerable experience developing a set-top box with Andy Goodman (Andy Goodman, a senior developer TiVo and Vudu) and Chris Coley (in the past – “hardvernye” architect ReplayTV).

In principle, the set-top box in harmony with the recent efforts of the Amazon to the home video market – the company financed the shooting immediately 14 “pilots” (the best of which will turn into full-fledged TV series) and bought the exclusive rights to broadcast popular TV series such as «Downton Abbey». And to make the potential of the company’s project codenamed «Kindle TV Set-Top Box» more than a logical step: the abundance of media content, multi-million customers, a good reputation in the line of Amazon Kindle general and, more importantly, a great opportunity for a large-scale promotion of the new product.

Kindle TV: Is an Amazon set-top box on the way? - Christian Science Monitor

A new report suggests that Amazon could release a TV set-top box by the end of 2013.

Later this year, and possibly as soon as the fall, Amazon will introduce a TV set-top box, allowing users to stream a range of content from Amazon’s Video on Demand store and Instant Video service. That’s the word today from BusinessWeek, which sources its report “to three people familiar with the project who aren’t authorized to discuss it.” So no, Amazon has not exactly confirmed that it’s going into the set-top box business. But it’s an interesting idea.

After all, in recent years Amazon has charged full steam ahead into the streaming video business. Besides Instant Video and Video on Demand, its also sponsored an array of original content, including an experiment wherein users can view a bunch of TV pilots, and decide which one gets made. And according to Amazon internal projections (hat tip TechCrunch), plenty of people around the world are tuning in.

It’s worth noting that all that Amazon is already available through third-party devices such as Roku. Still, it makes sense that Amazon would want to cut out the middle man, and just sell its own line of hardware. BusinessWeek, which speculates that the device could be called Kindle TV, says design and implementation are being handled by Amazon’s Lab126 division, by a team comprised of employees with “considerable experience making set-top boxes.”

More when we know it.

As we noted yesterday, Netflix has recorded a blockbuster fiscal first quarter, with 2 million new members – making for 29 million users, in all. Meanwhile, quarterly revenue at Netflix surpassed $ 1 billion, helping cap a major rebound from the Qwikster debacle of 2011. (None of which is particularly good news for Amazon’s video business.)

“In the end, the [the new Amazon TV device] may be an effort to attract more developers to the Kindle platform and increase Instant Video’s popularity,” writes Ed Oswald of Laptop Magazine. “By most metrics, Netflix continues to dominate the streaming entertainment content industry by a wide margin, and iTunes also holds an advantage when it comes to downloads.”

Amazon's Digital Media Land Grab: The Kindle TV - Seeking Alpha

It’s official: Amazon (AMZN) is attempting to take over all commerce on Earth, including digital media. Amazon’s mission statement states:

We seek to be Earth’s most customer-centric company in four primary sets: consumers, sellers, enterprises and content creators.

By focusing on these four, expansive customer groups, Amazon is creating a moat-heavy and platform-based operating model. Stated differently, Amazon is setting up various businesses to encourage entrepreneurship to be run through its platforms. Third-party sellers can set up digital store fronts at Amazon.com; start ups and large enterprises can run their entire IT organization through Amazon Web Services; and authors can easily distribute ideas through Amazon Direct Publishing.

The world sure is getting flatter, like Thomas Friedman postulated. Writers, filmmakers and musicians no longer need a deal from a traditional publisher. Now they can go directly through the Amazon Direct Publishing platform to self-publish. The competitive disruption that many of Amazon’s innovations are is unlikely to be known, until its too late for the victim of the gales of creative destruction, to take a term from Joseph Schumpeter.

Now, with the reported introduction of Kindle TV, Amazon is not only competing with Apple TV (AAPL), Roku and other set-top box businesses, but traditional pay-TV businesses such as Comcast (CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (TWC). The Amazon Kindle TV platform will be another way for content owners to distribute digital media content. Land grab type competition over the dominant distribution platform is good for consumers and content creators, and bad for traditional retailers / distributors.

And since Amazon’s goal is to be the most customer-centric company in the world, it’s likely that both the content creators and content consumers will benefit with a large customer base and favorable pricing. Case in point: Amazon pays its Kindle Direct Authors a 70% royalty on net sales; traditional publishers aren’t that generous. Meanwhile, Amazon collects its toll for distributing that content.

Like I observed in a recent column on SolarCity, collecting a toll is a superior business model, throwing off moat-like recurring and predictable cash flow. If you own Amazon, you own a bridge.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, but may initiate a long position in AMZN over the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article. (More. ..)

Litres and Bukmeytam have to compete with the Amazon region - Roem

April 21, 2013 15:03
