You might want to share a picture of a book you’re reading or snap a shot of a settings page so you can help a friend. Whatever your reason, you can take screenshots on most Kindle devices. Here’s how to do it.
The video above from ebook site Goodereader shows how to take a screenshot on the Kindle Paperwhite. All you have to do is touch two opposing corners on the screen at the same time. You’ll see a brief flash to let you know the screenshot has been taken. Screenshots are stored in the root folder of the device, so you’ll need to connect it to a computer via USB to access them.
You can also take screenshots on most other Kindle devices (and devices that run the Kindle app). Here’s the rundown:
- Kindle (formerly known as the Kindle Touch) . Press and hold the Home button and then tap anywhere on your screen. As with the Paperwhite, you’ll need to connect to a computer to retrieve the screenshot.
- Kindle Keyboard (also Kindle 3 and DX) . Press Alt-Shift-G on the keyboard. Pics are stored in the Documents folder. Again, connect to a computer to get to them.
- Kindle Fire 2 and Kindle Fire HD (that have a volume button) . Press and hold the volume down and power button at the same time. Open your Photos app to access the pics.
- Older Kindle Fires (without volume buttons) . Unfortunately, these are a lot harder to take screenshots on. You actually have to connect your Fire to a computer with the Kindle SDK installed and take a screenshot through the development environment. Here are Amazon’s instructions.
- Kindle App (various platforms) . The Kindle app doesn’t have a built-in screenshot function, so you’ll have to take a screenshot with the tools available to the platform itself. Here’s how to take screenshots on your computer, on your Android device, and on your iOS device.
