Samsung will build advanced AI in the Galaxy S8 – RBC

Samsung is planning a major upgrade for the artificial intelligence personal assistant, which will be built into the company’s new flagship — Galaxy S8, according to the newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.

On the last prototypes of the Galaxy S8 Samsung is testing the button placed on the side face of the housing of the smartphone, which will be responsible for calling personal assistant. AI will be similar to Siri — the personal assistant in Apple’s smartphone. The newspaper’s sources say that the prototype can be modified.

according to the newspaper, in October, the company acquired a startup Viv Labs. New personal assistant will be developed based on the technology of Viv Labs, which are “significantly different” from its competitors, said chief technology officer of the mobile division Samsung Injong Ri, WSJ reports.

In connection with the withdrawal from production of the smartphone Note 7, the company will have more time for revision Galaxy S8. Samsung executives are looking for opportunities to postpone the presentation of the Galaxy S8 until the end of February 2017. The newspaper’s sources say that the presentation could take place in April.

In the third quarter of 2016, the profit of Samsung was $ 4.6 billion, which is 30% less compared to the same period last year. The company reduced revenues associated with the review of the Galaxy Note 7.
